Spam still the choice of online criminals
Spam is the number-one source of malware, and criminals are adding new tricks to get around security measures, making it more important than ever for customers to stay protected.
Research from F-Secure and MWR InfoSecurity has revealed that cyber is still relying on the same basic methods they’ve been using for decades, spam the most commonly used tool for the spreading of malicious URLs, scams and malware.
Spam is becoming more successful for the criminals, with click rates rising from 13.4% in the second half of 2017 to 14.2% in 2018. F-Secure says that 46% of spam emails are dating scams, 23% are emails with malicious attachments, and 31% contain links to malicious websites.
The technique still relies on spewing out massive numbers of emails in order to snare a tiny number of users – and the criminals continually refine their tactics to deliver to better results. For example, an email may link you to a harmless site, which only then redirects you to a site hosting malicious content. The extra hop makes it harder to identify and track.
You can learn more about the changes to spam methods by tuning into the latest episode of F-Secure’s Cyber Security Sauna podcast. And you can earn great margins while giving your customers the best protection by purchasing F-Secure security solutions through Synaxon. MSPs need to get strategic
Continued market growth means there are big opportunities for MSPs but increasing competition means it’s going to get tougher out there, according to the latest views from expert market analysts.
Ahead of the UK Managed Services and Hosting Summit 2018 in London, on 19 September 2018, the joint organisers – IT Europa and Angel Business Communications – noted that the market is expected to grow by 9.4% each year over the next six years, taking its total value from $145.3 billion in 2016 to $249.4 billion by 2024, according to recent research from Wise Guys Reports.
But competition is getting more intense, with the big public cloud playershttps://www.realwire.com/releases/Managed-Service-Providers-need-to-develop-a-strategic-vision such as AWS, Google and Microsoft setting pricing levels for basic hosting and workload services, leaving MSPs to tailor their offerings to specific customer needs and verticals.
MSPs will need to differentiate their offerings to stand out from the competition. Synaxon members who are developing their managed services business can take advantage of the strong partnership we have with Datto (Autotask) and also join our renowned SynMSP programme, which offers specific services and support for managed services business development.
